He had a strong view of the importance of local government and was deeply involved in the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners serving various roles on the executive committee for two decades and as president for 2000-2001. His pinnacle moment with the organization came in 2001 when Governor Ridge named him township commissioner of the year.
