Sister Joanne Brown, RSM

Sister Joanne Brown, RSM, age 82, died February 27, 2019.

She is pre-deceased by her parents Leo and Irene.

In addition to her religious community, S. Joanne is survived by her brother, L. Richard, nieces Nancy Wick and Sheila Krusen, and nephews Richard Scott, David and Timothy Brown, as well as grand-nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation Tuesday, March 5, 6:00 - 7:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 7:00 pm in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion Station, PA 19066. Burial in the community cemetery will be Wednesday, March 6, 10 am.

Obituary for Sister Joanne Brown, RSM


Sister Joanne Brown, age 82, a Sister of Mercy of the Mid-Atlantic Community died peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at McAuley Convent in Merion, Pennsylvania.

Sister Joanne received a B.A. from Villanova University, and a M. Ed. In Reading from Portland University, Oregon. Sister Joanne's entire ministry was dedicated to education. She taught in elementary schools within the archdiocese of Philadelphia and in the diocese of Eugene, Oregon. In 1974 Sister Joanne applied her gifts to a wider circle when she joined the MERIT Project of Philadelphia, teaching reading to children with special needs. Her passion for education was evident to all those who came under her instruction.

Sister spent her remaining years at McAuley Convent where she loved to share her stories about the children she instructed over all the years.
Sister Joanne is predeceased by her parents Leo and Irene Brown. She is survived by her brother, L. Richard, nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces and nephews. She was well-loved by her family and community.
