Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Daughter, Sister, Granddaughter, Niece,Cousin

Donna Janae Finnegan passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2019, age 40 of Media. Donna was a graduate of Merion Mercy Academy and a devoted lover of all animals.

Cherished daughter of Barbara Ann Grugan (Tony) and Donald James Finnegan. Survived by sister Jennifer Grugan and grandmother Anna Brennan (predeceased Joseph Brennan). Niece of Joe (Kay) Brennan, cousin of Karly, Taylor, and Lyla. She leaves behind many devoted family and friends.

Donna Janae Finnegan was born on December 16,1978 in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She was surrounded by love since the day she was born. On her first day home, Aunt Jane came to visit her. She christened Aunt Jane that day. Her Pop and Uncle Joey were the loves of her early life.

At the age of 3 Donna was enrolled in Merion Mercy Early childhood program. There she met her lifelong friend, Janet Doyle Thompson. The two of them were lifers as they went all the way through Merion Mercy together and graduated in 1997. Their friendship lasted the test of time

At age 9 Donna lost her Pop. Through him she developed a love of animals as he worked at the Zoo. She had many behind the scenes tours.

Shortly thereafter Donna began horseback riding lessons. Each week she faithfully fed and bathed the horses. This prepared her for her life of a veterinary technician.

In 1993 the family expanded and she now had a little sister, Jennifer, whom she loved dearly. By the year 2000, the family moved from Philadelphia to Media,
Donna has now reached her element. She rescued turtles on the roadside and brought them hone to live in a pool on the deck for the summer. She then released them back to nature in the fall. She caught 2 bats that got into the house and released them. Not long ago she rescued a baby deer from the roadside as the mother was killed.. Donna brought the baby deer home and had it on the deck in a pen as the weather was nice . That night she brought the deer into the mud room and slept with it until dawn. She made arrangements to bring it to a rescue owned by a friend-another tech.

Donna will be remembered for her love of life and doing things her way. Her newest love was her cousin Lyla-only 3 years of age. Through this ordeal,Lyla would color and play with Donna totally unaware of the cancer consuming her. Even with the loss of hair she was never afraid and never commented.

This past Saturday Donna began the journey home. Surrounded by her family she passed Monday September 23, 2019 at 402 AM. Her Aunt Jane died September 22 ,2016. The time of her passing 402 is significant as this was Jane's birthday-April 2

Donna leaves behind loving family and friends. She is finally at peace. No more pain.
She will be welcomed at the gates of Heaven where her Pop and Aunt Jane are awaiting her with open arms.

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday 2-5 pm at the D'ANJOLELL MEMORIAL HOME, 2811 West Chester Pk. Broomall. Funeral service 5 pm in our main chapel. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Fox Chase Cancer Center, Attn: Dr. Hossein Borghaei 333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111 would be greatly appreciated.
Jim Stigale Funeral Director.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Jess and I wish to express our deepest sympathies to Barbara and the entire family. It was just a couple of weeks ago that we realized we had both known Donna at different times, Jess from Merion Mercy in the '90s and I from having lived in the house next door in 2001. It is a small world indeed. May Donna rest in peace in the arms of the Lord and may all her loved ones find comfort, love, and support in one another.
