Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Son & Brother

Owen Cappella

Owen Thomas Cappella, passed away on May 18th at age 15. He died peacefully with his parents, Steve and Jessica, his older brother and best friend, Zac, his grandparents, Jane and Al Cappella, and Carol and Ed Schmitt, and his dog Loui at his side. His grandparents Bill and Jan Scholl, will be arriving from Jacksonville, Florida. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles and many cousins.

Owen attended Overbrook School for the Blind where he was embraced with love and care by his classroom teachers and aides as well as one of his most favorite music teachers, Mr. Sap, who encouraged Owen to "direct" Overbrook's choirs at many performances. His other special teacher, Mrs. Trish Gonzales, came to his bedside in his last days, to play the guitar and sing several of his favorite songs to him.

Owen loved to listen to, dance, sing, and conduct, to any type of music. He also loved "shooting hoops" and playing Top Soccer with his friends. He had a passion for riding on the school bus and was an honorary junior fire fighter of Garden City Fire Department. However, his most favorite activity was floating in the Gulf during family vacations on Sanibel Island, FA. His happiest moments were when the family gathered for dinners and birthday parties. It was those times that made his day, and made ours as well, with his beautiful smile and joyful laughter.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and his many loving and capable nurses including Gwennie, Kristin, Aimee, Keisha, Jaime, Laura, Caiti, Dennis, Sarah, and Maria, who helped fill Owen's days with joy and laughter. He also leaves behind numerous physicians, nurses, therapists, and social workers at AI Dupont Hospital for Children who dedicated their knowledge and expertise in caring for Owen for the last fifteen years.

Owen was loving and lovable - our model for unconditional love. We are deeply grateful for having had him in our lives. He taught us that life can be unfair but love does not care. He will always be a blessing and a cherished part of us. Whenever we see a smile glowing with warmth, we will feel his presence.

The family wishes to invite all who loved Owen to his Viewing on Monday, May 24th from 10:00 AM-1pm, followed by a Christian service at 1pm..
Both will be held in Danjolell -Barone Memorial Home, 908 S. Providence Rd, Wallingford, PA. 19086

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Overbrook School for the Blind, 6333 Malvern Ave, Philadelphia, PA, in Owen's name.

A live stream of the service will begin at 1:00 PM at https://twitter.com/danjolellbarone?s=09

In the weeks to come, we will be having a full celebration of life, details to follow.
