Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Sister, Aunt and Friend

Sister Mary O'ConneII

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Mary O'ConneII RSM, age 84, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas; who died peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2021.

Sister Mary O'ConneII's life-long love of Elementary education Spanning over 50 years encompassed teaching and administration in the diocese of Raleigh NC, Hialeah, FL and the Philadelphia Archdiocese. As principal in schools in the Philadelphia Archdiocese including Annunciation BVM in Havertown, St. Matthias in Bala Cynwyd and St. Alphonsus in Maple Glen her leadership and administration as well as her care and enthusiasm for students, families, and engagement within her parish community were hallmarks of her ministry.

Mary was an ardent "Philly sports fan". She enjoyed gatherings of her friends and family. She had a keen awareness of those she loved and lived life as it presented itself with thoughtfulness and compassion.

A deeply prayerful woman, you could count on Mary to have a prayer for every family and friends gathering.

I will always cherish the many fond memories I have of Sister Mary when we worked together at Gwynedd Mercy Academy. She was a kind and loving person with a wonderful sense of humor and had positive words of encouragement and support for everyone-students, colleagues and friends. She was tremendously dedicated to young people and I am happy to have been involved on a few occasions with the students from her beloved Hope partnership for education. She will be deeply missed

I feel blessed to have been one of the secretaries to Sister Mary O'Connell at Annunciation School and will always cherish the respect and loving dedication she exhibited for the children and parents of the parish.
It was easy to see this was a reflection of her love of God and her commitment to her vocation.

Sister Mary O'Connell was an excellent Principal of Annunciation BVM Grade School in the 1970's/1980's - she was well-respected & cared about us Annunciation students, & Sister Mary cheered-on the Philadelphia Phillies!
