Obituary for Angelo Rocco Visco

September 16, 1929 - January 11, 2019
Broomall, Pennsylvania | Age 89

Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, Godfather, Friend and Neighbor

Angelo Rocco Visco -- beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, godfather, friend and neighbor -- died January 11, 2019.

Born September 16, 1929, in Philadelphia, he was raised in Overbrook (St Thomas More High School) and lived for the past 40 years in Broomall.
Angelo was a noted high school athlete. As a young man, he pursued various occupations, including drafting work and acting. In the late 1970s, after a serious injury, he established Del Val Enterprises, a company that provided mobility solutions for the disabled, with his son Steve, and ran the company for a number of years. Disabled himself, he was an advocate for others, serving on the Pennsylvania Accessibility Advisory Board and the state's Elevator Advisory Board.

Confined to a wheelchair for many years, Angelo was nevertheless very active in business and social life. He drove a van his company had modified for his use, visiting family and friends, and conducting business affairs throughout the region and across several states. He was active in a number of causes, including the Republican Party and the Catholic Church.

To those who knew him, Angelo was what many people would describe as quite a character. He was a quintessential fiery Italian-American, full of passionate convictions, deep-seated loyalties, and a deep love of family. A story teller, a lover of good Italian food, especially bread, for which his sons-in-law would have to fight him at the dinner table. He maintained his early love of acting and could discuss cinema and actors for hours. He was a fierce advocate for people and causes in which he believed. Above all, he loved his family, for whom he endured many hardships to be fully involved in their lives.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (DiMarco); his children Angela Kaplan (Stephen), Steven Visco (Eva), and Maribeth Visco (Karl Berger); his eight grandchildren, Amanda Kaplan (David Bowles), Jeremy Kaplan, Stephanie Visco (Scott Burlington), Vittoria Visco, Steven Visco Jr., Antonio Visco, Isabelle Berger, Tobias Berger; and one great grandchild, Maxine Visco-Burlington. He is also survived by his sisters Rachel Carderelli (Anthony) and Ann Marie Zuccharini and their families. He was pre-deceased by his parents Domenic and Loretta (Leone) Visco and sister Antoinette Garofolo.

Angelo also was blessed to have several long-term caregivers whose dedication and loving care enabled him to persevere far longer than many paraplegic patients: Angela Duggan, Jennifer Wood, Sofija Saula, and Eileen Walsh.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation at 9:30, Thursday, January 17, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30, at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, Pa., 19073. Interment will be private.

In lieu of Flowers, friends who wish to make a memorial contribution may donate in his name to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, 636 Morris Turnpike, Short Hills NJ 07078 or the charity of your choice.
